Trauma Informed Child Care – Teaching with Trauma in Mind

Understanding how trauma affects learning is important as a teacher. Research shows that 26% of children will experience some type of trauma before the age of 4. Trauma informed care means the teacher aims to empower students who have experienced trauma and helps them feel safe in their school environment to learn and grow freely. By the end of this training you will be able to:

  1. Understand a deeper awareness of trauma and its triggers that may show up in your classroom
  2. Identify the neurobiological effects of trauma in the minds of little learners.
  3. Describe how trauma affects behavior, mood, health, and wellbeing. 
  4. Prepare a plan for teaching and dealing with children and families affected by trauma in your classroom. 

You will be asked to challenge how you think about children with difficult behaviors and will learn tips & real world, effective strategies for supporting these students best when they need you most.
