In this course on infant health and safety you will learn about the importance of keeping an environment free of clutter and dangerous materials. You will gain an in-depth understanding of safe sleep practices while infants are in your care and tips for combating tricky sleep situations. We will address infant feeding, tummy time, diapering, shaken baby syndrome and how to report any suspected abuse.

You will also learn strategies for building security and trust within your infants to ensure you provide an emotionally safe classroom and you will learn strategies for calming a crying infant or toddler. We will discuss how to work as a team with families to build the overall health and development of the infants in your care.

By the end of this training you will:

  1. Identify 3 major components of infant safe sleep.
  2. Describe ways you can create a “yes environment” in your class so that infants can safely explore.
  3. Name 5 areas in your room that can be a potential safety risk and create a plan to remedy that.
